Where’s the Chevette?

TheStreet.com has kindly provided the Top 10 list of worst cars of all time as compiled by the staff of Edmunds.com. It’s hard to argue with these monstrosities, but readers will no doubt have their own “honorable” mentions (the Edmunds list is actually 100 cars).

(10) 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Diesel

(9) 1957 Trabant (There was even a post-Cold War movie made about this two-cylinder wreck called Go Trabi Go.)

(8) 1982 Cadillac Cimarron (As the Street.com’s Ted Reed put it, “The 1982 Cadillac Cimarron was a symbol of what was wrong with GM in the 1980s, an effort to compete with BMW by redecorating the front-drive, four-cylinder Chevrolet Cavalier and calling it a Cadillac.”)

(7) 1958 Edsel Corsair

(6) 2003 Saturn Ion

(5) 1971 Chevrolet Vega

(4) 1987 Yugo (Not as bad as the Trabant, just as Yugoslavia was not as bad as the GDR.)

(3) 1955 BMW Isetta

(2) 1974 Ford Mustang

(1) 2001 Pontiac Aztec (“Our winner,” writes Reed, “is not only extremely ugly, but also has a singular distinction: it destroyed an 84-year-old automaker.”)

  1. They also forgot about the Chevy Citation, a boxy version of another crappy car, the AMC Pacer. When I was a kid, we had an AMC Hornet. I never heard my father cuss more than when discussing that car. I’m glad he led the Rosary at church, because he needed all the indulgences for the line of blue he sent forth!
