Any parent out there who’s had to watch The Fresh Beat Band has probably had the same thoughts I’ve had: What are these actor-dancer-singers doing when they aren’t performing in this dreadfully cornball show for kids? Do they hang out together in real life? Is their real life much darker than on the show? Are they … normal?
For instance, according to her website, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer is “a Cuban-American quadruple threat, avid songwriter and humanitarian, best known for playing the role of Kiki on Nickelodeon’s The Fresh Beat Band. She is currently on a sold-out 95-show tour over 15 weeks, performing in theatres nationwide.”
But what of Jon Beavers, the actor who plays the hip-hop human beat-box Twist? Anyone notice he’s beginning not to look like a teenager? Is he sick and tired of playing to kids (and on tour) but in need of the money? Check out the clip below from Inside the Actors Studio—yes, Beavers has been to the Actors Studio Drama School in New York. What you see is the Q&A with Mickey Rourke from 2009. Note Beavers’s accent—he could’ve been in The Departed! Why am I so obsessed with this show? (Props to Josh Beard for loading this onto YouTube.)
